“Delights the eye and inspires the mind
to calm and peaceful thoughts.”
Our lake, our home, our responsibility.
Our lake and grounds are the core of our community. Season by season, they’re a source of scenic beauty, our recreational playgrounds, and the bond that draws us together. Please treat them with respect, be a good neighbor, and help us build a better community by volunteering.
News & stuff
Save the date: General membership meeting on Tuesday, August 25.
Our summer general membership is scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, at 6:00 pm. Depending on the weather, it will be held at either the ballfield or Street School. We’ll try to have Zoom available for those who can’t make it to the meeting (but the ballfield may present a challenge for that). More details to come.
Come to the summer picnic on Sunday, September 13th!
The annual picnic is a great time to catch up with neighbors, hear about summer adventures, and enjoy great, homemade potluck dishes. Starting at 1:00 pm, this year’s picnic will again be in the capable hands of Jessica Dauksza, who ensures there’s always something fun the kids. There will again be face-painting and free ice cream. This year, Jess is also encouraging the community to join in a new “Sailing of the Boats” event, as described below. If you can, please bring a potluck dish. And if you can help with the prep, setup, take-down, or anything else, contact Jessica at 845-721-3670 or jessica.dauksza@gmail.com.
The inauguaral “Sailing of the Boats”
Here’s Jessica’s latest fun idea for the summer picnic: “Sailing of the boats is a new tradition we would love to start at Lake Lucille. Please create a boat that will be sent off into the lake towards the dam as we ‘say goodbye to summer.’ They will be collected at the dam.
Get creative with your boats! There will be awards given to the “most creative,” “most colorful,” and “biggest boat.” I hope to make this a yearly tradition here at our beautiful lake. Anyone can participate!”
Fishing Derby photos are posted! Check out the fun!
This year’s Fishing Derby drew 21 kids, which made the Baby Lake a happening place on Sunday, June 14. There were plenty of fish biting and smiles all around. And prizes for everybody. Aileen McDonald and her support crew organized and ran the event like the pros they are, and nature did her part by providing a beautiful morning. Check out the fun here.
Brook Lane dedicated to Lake Lucille resident Larry Rose.
On June 6, Clarkstown held a dedication ceremony for Larry Rose, who grew up in Lake Lucille on Brook Lane, but died in active military service in Vietnam on June 10, 1968. Larry was the older brother of Glen Rose of 6 Brook Lane. Led by Supervisor George Hoehmann, the ceremony was well attended by town representatives, Lake Lucille residents and family members, Vietnam veterans, the Clarkstown Police Honor Guard, and more. Doug Davidson, a childhood friend of Larry’s, gave a moving speech that provided insight into Larry’s childhood in the community as well as his natural leadership ability. We hope to be able to post a copy of that speech here in the near future. It’s worth reading.
